Fire
Prevention Bureau [Burning Permits] [Fire Safety Inspections]
[School Visitations] The
Fire Department's Fire Prevention Bureau is staffed by the Fire Marshal
and several fire inspectors. The bureau performs the
following functions: -
PREVENTION
-
Performs fire safety inspections
upon request.
- The Fire Marshal represents the
fire department at town Planning Board and Zoning Board meetings,
assuring that all new construction conforms to fire codes.
- PUBLIC
EDUCATION
- Teaches fire safety
classes at
public schools, businesses, and other organizations.

Hands out fire safety information at public events.
- FIRE
INVESTIGATION
- Works with Broome
County fire investigators to determine the cause and origin of fires.

Photographs fire scenes for insurance records and as an aid in
investigations.
- FIRE REPORTING

Creates a report on every alarm. These reports must be
submitted to New York State every month.

Maintains statistical reports detailing various fire department
activities.
- OTHER DUTIES

Issues burning permits.
- Assures that the data carried on the
Fire Prevention / Command Post vehicle (CV-32) is up to date.
This data contains information on fire preplans, hazardous
materials in the town, and recent fire inspections.
